Data center technicians keep the facilities behind cloud and AI running: racking and cabling servers, swapping hardware, monitoring power and cooling, and responding to tickets around the clock. Employers hire from IT support, the military, electrical and HVAC trades, and structured cabling — there is no single required license, which makes the certification ladder below the fastest way to stand out.
Starting from IT/computers: CompTIA Server+ or Network+. Starting from facilities/electrical: the Schneider Electric Data Center Certified Associate (DCCA) — its coursework is free — or EPI's CDCP if an employer sponsors it. Starting from cabling/low-voltage: the FOA's CFOT (fiber) or BICSI credentials, plus OSHA 30 for site work. See the Certifications page for the full ladder.
